Outer plaiting construction gives it durability and that classic hiker look, while placing more body yarn next to the skin for improved wicking and insulation. Full-density padding along the instep and up the calf makes it comfortable to wear with lace-up hiking boots. Even when I had a get-off on my mountain bike while wearing a pair of these socks and the platform pedal spikes tore gouges in my calf, these socks took their share of punishment and are still going strong. I'm please overall quality construction and material. They're a good value. However, the "Crew" length could be a little shorter for my taste, these are closer to a "boot" length.

Went to my local REI and saw some hiking boots that looked good, but was in flip flops so told the salesman I'd be back... they said, no problem we have socks to use. They were multi colored and fuzzy and felt great, made the boots feel great too. Bought the boots and asked what kind of socks they were, and can I buy some. (They were farm to feet) but REI didn't carry them, I wanted to buy the used pair but couldn't, so I ordered on line. Didn't see anything like what I used, but ordered 3 pair to give them a try... they are nice, but not the same fuzzy softness that I used at the store. I'll keep trying these, maybe after a few washings.
